If you’re thinking of moving to Whistler, or have just moved to Whistler, then you’re probably looking out for information about the schools in and around the town. If you are buying real estate in Whistler, rest assured as there are some great schools in the Sea to Sky School District that serves Whistler families.

 

Here is my quick neighbourhood guide on the Whistler schools you can send your kids to, if you are lucky enough to move to this gorgeous part of British Columbia.

 

Myrtle Philip Community School

This school in Whistler provides quality education for about 250 students in classes from Kindergarten to Grade 7. The school is named after Myrtle Philip, a pioneer who built the Rainbow Lodge in 1913 along with her husband. The original Myrtle Philip Elementary School started in 1976 at a site that is now part of Village North. The new Myrtle Philip Community School, with a community space included, opened in 1992.

 

This school’s catchment area is those based on the West side of Highway 99 – students from Blueberry and north of it; East side of Highway 99 – students living north of Spruce Grove. Spring Creek Community School

Another K-7 school for the Whistler area, Spring Creek is a dual-track school offering English and French immersion. The school has a student population of 323, with intermediate grades featuring Late French Immersion.

 

The catchment area for this school is: On the west of Highway 99 – Westside Road plus students living south of Blueberry; on the east of Highway 99 – south from Spruce Grove. The school is based at 1509 Spring Creek Drive, Whistler and its current Principal is Mr Stuart Bent. For more information, visit the school’s website here.

 

Whistler Secondary School

Serving all parts of Whistler, Whistler Secondary School (WSS) is a secondary school that offers both English and French options. The school, for grades 8 to 12, operates on a semester system, with final exams and assessments taking place in June and January. Principal Mr. Robin Kirk embodies the school vision of ‘Students Love to Learn Here,’ and does his utmost to ensure this is the case. To register your child as a new student at any of these Whistler schools, you need to visit in person along with the following original documentation:

  1. Proof of British Columbia residency
  2. Student’s BC Care Card
  3. Student’s official Birth Certificate
  4. Immunization records
  5. Immigration / Citizenship / Permanent Resident documentation, if applicable
  6. Student’s last Report Card, if available
  7. Legal guardian, custody or court order document, if applicable
